2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami Notice of Race Released

The Notice of Race for ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami, scheduled for January 25-31, 2015, has been released.

On-line entry will open on November 10, 2014 at mocr.ussailing.org. The deadline for priority entries with regards to quotas is December 5, 2014. Entries must be received no later than January 5, 2015 to qualify for early entry.

US Sailing’s premier event – the ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami – is set to return to Miami, Fla. for top-level Olympic and Paralympic class racing. The event is only North American regatta to be included in the International Sailing Federation’s (ISAF) 2014-15 Sailing World Cup series.

Competitors in the Paralympic events will have five days of fleet racing from Monday, January 26 to Friday, January 30. Medal Races across the ten OIympic events will bring the regatta to a close on Saturday, January 31 where medals will be awarded to the top three boats.

Event winners in each Olympic event from ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami will qualify for the 2015 SWC Final, while the best placed ‘home continent’ sailor will also qualify.

Regatta Headquarters will be located at the US Sailing Center Miami, an official Olympic training center, in Coconut Grove, Miami, Fla. Additional hosts for the event include Miami Rowing Club, Coconut Grove Sailing Club and Shake-a-Leg Miami. These sailing organizations host classes onshore, as well as help run the on-the-water racing. The Coral Reef Yacht Club hosts the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Continue reading

Bouvet and Mion End Belcher Win Streak

MIAMI, Fla. (February 1, 2014) – The Miami weather saved the best for last on a special Medal Race Saturday edition of the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami. Medals were decided in 10 Olympic events on Biscayne Bay under sunny skies and enough wind for good racing. Paralympic Class Medals Awarded Friday; Medal Races on Saturday

Pascoe 1_2.4mrMIAMI, Fla. (January 31, 2014) – The three Paralympic class events awarded gold medals on Friday at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami. The 2014 gold medalists are Megan Pascoe (GBR) in the 2.4mR, Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell (GBR) in the SKUD 18, and Bruno Jourdren, Eric Flageul and Nicolas Vimont Vicary (FRA) in the Sonar.

Saturday will be the penultimate day of racing for the Olympic class sailors. Contenders will be forced to elevate their game in the medal race series. Sailors and their crews have had at least a week of acclimating to the light, and at times, unpredictable winds on Biscayne Bay. Only the 49er and 49erFX fleets completed races on Friday. The sailors and Race Committee made valiant attempts to get in racing on a hazy, humid day with light air to no avail.

Saturday’s medal race series includes the top ten ranked sailors in each fleet competing in one race with double points applied. The 49er and 49erFX will conduct a series of three short races worth single points each. Continue reading

Sailors Washed out of Biscayne Bay

Sailors and their coaches made the most of their down time for the third consecutive day, as rain showers and little breeze put a dampen on the racing outlook on Wednesday. The light air theme so far this week has forced sailors to use their extended onshore hours to acclimate to the conditions and adjust their equipment accordingly. Continue reading
