Regatta to Celebrate 25th Running

Portsmouth, R.I. (September 11, 2013) – US Sailing’s premier event – the ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami – is set to return to Miami, Florida for top-level Olympic and Paralympic class racing. Scheduled for Jan. 25-Feb. 1, the regatta will mark its 25th anniversary of delivering elite-level competition in the sailing events selected for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Event organizers have posted the Notice of Race on the event website: http://mocr.ussailing.org. Online registration for competitors and coaches will open on Nov. 16 and close on January 7, 2014.

Event chairperson Gary Bodie said, “As we get one year closer to the Rio 2016 Games, more and more of the world’s best sailors are using Miami as a winter training base. The local network of sailors, yacht clubs and sailing centers serve as a community of support, and it’s great to see returning and new faces each year. We look forward to welcoming everyone to World Cup Miami.”

ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami is the only North American regatta to be included in the International Sailing Federation’s (ISAF) 2013-14 Sailing World Cup series.

Competitors in the Paralympic classes will have five days of fleet racing (Monday-Friday) and no medal race. ISAF medals will be awarded to the top three boats in each Olympic and Paralympic class on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Regatta Headquarters will be located at the US Sailing Center Miami, an official Olympic training center, in the Coconut Grove section of Miami, Fla. Event organizers have partnered with the City of Miami to provide world-class venues for competition. Additional hosts for the event include Miami Rowing Club, Coconut Grove Sailing Club and Shake-a-Leg Miami. These sailing organizations host classes onshore, as well as help run the on-the-water racing. The Coral Reef Yacht Club hosts the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The 2013 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami is sponsored by Sperry Top-Sider, Harken McLube and UHeatlh Sports Medicine/University of Miami Hospital, Chubb and Resorts World  Miami.
